Okay for real this time: Chapter 1

Sorry, I've been pretty busy with a lot of stuff with school, but now I'm back and free to work on Judgment of the Innocent! I've proofread the first chapter and I'm letting a few people read it over before I post it though... I'll let you know when it's posted and ready to read! If you are interested in reading the unpolished version let me know in the comments below! Thanks!

Character Profile: Maya Cunningham

Maya Cunningham / F
Age: 18
Birthday: April 19
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Green
Height: 5’7”
Weight: 146 lbs
Hometown: Jackson, MO
Hobbies: Art, Fashion, Problem-Solving
Description: Judgment of the Innocent primarily follows the story of this young lady. She's confident in who she is and doesn't take crap from anyone about what she's supposed to look like or do. She's often seen in bright long scarves and hand warmers even in the summer. A very ambitious girl, she never backs down from any challenge where she can use her head. Not physical though, she leaves the physical stuff to her best friend Sarah. She's become very attached to her sketchbook. Looking through it would be just like looking through another person's journal. In it are doodles she's sketched out throughout the years that help her think about the problems she's had, mostly to do with school. Her friends Brittany and Sarah always put up a good challenge when it comes to taking on school assignments. As great of friends as they are, her greatest idol was her mother. When she passed away, neither Brittany or Sarah could make her feel any better. It would have completely broken her apart if it weren't for this new kid from Chicago... Neo helped her where Brittany and Sarah didn't even know where to begin. With his help and her dad by her side, she's pretty well put that behind her! Now with the end of her high school career on the horizon, she's ready to take the world by storm!

Introducing: Judgment of the Innocent

So, again welcome to my writing blog. I'll be posting updates on my progress in my creative writing! I've written plenty of short stories and poetry before, but for the first time I've decided to write a novel! This is a new adventure for me and I've learned a ton so far, but it's not done yet.

My current project is called Judgment of the Innocent. I beat NaNoWriMo with this story, but even after 150K words it's not done yet. I'd say as far as completion of the story I'm a little over halfway. I wanted to have the story completed by the time the year ended, but it looks like that probably won't happen. Wherever I am though, I think I'm going to be posting a chapter every week, or every couple weeks starting in the new year. And of course, I'll be posting updates here on a weekly basis.

So, to start off here is the synopsis of the story! Enjoy:

With her high school career rapidly coming to a close, Maya doesn't just want to graduate, she wants to kiss this old town goodbye! With any luck, she hopes to turn her world history presentation into a college dissertation that would knock the socks off of any college admission board! That is, if she can whip her reluctant partner into shape… With the help of a retired college professor, their exploration of Egyptian Mythology begins to show potential to uncover some groundbreaking truths. Unfortunately, the truth that they uncover is much more than they bargained for. They find that the God of Darkness, Apophis, was not only very real, but he has persisted to this day in a cycle of reincarnation! Though he existed in a shattered, powerless state until now, if the pattern of reincarnation holds true, the shattered parts of his essence, that have been reincarnating separately until now, are due to manifest themselves together that very summer, bringing him back to full power! To make matters worse, one of her closest friends is revealed as the incarnation and he is very much aware of it! With her friend now threatening to play a dark god in modern times, her only hope to save him is to convince an increasingly skeptical world of the reality of the myth…  Although… Maybe if this myth was true, then there’s a chance that some truth exists behind other myths as well! With any luck, one of them should allow her to have a chance to fight back!

Welcome to The Yawping Barbarian

"I Celebrate myself, and sing myself,
And what I assume you shall assume,
For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you.

...

The spotted hawk swoops by and accuses me, he complains
of my gab and my loitering.

I too am not a bit tamed, I too am untranslatable,
I sound my barbaric yawp over the roofs of the world.

...

You will hardly know who I am or what I mean,
But I shall be good health to you nevertheless,
And filter and fibre your blood."

-Walt Whitman (Song of Myself)

If you are reading this blog, then I assume to some degree you're just as curious as I am about my creative writing projects. Well, I have no idea where this is going to go, but I do know something. As Walt Whitman proclaimed, I too have a barbaric yawp to sound upon the rooftops of the world and here is where it will be recorded.

My name is Wesley Hauwiller and this is my Barbaric Yawp! Let's do this!
